Texans Make Huge Splash Acquiring Stefon Diggs From Bills

The Houston Texans were one of the biggest surprises in the NFL during the 2023 season. They shocked the football world by going 10-7 and winning the AFC South, quickly coming out of their rebuild following the post-Deshaun Watson era.

Looking to continue building on that success, the Texans have been busy shaking ensuring that phenom quarterback C.J. Stroud has the weapons around him to succeed. The team agreed to a long-term extension with tight end Dalton Schultz and brought in Joe Mixon to replace Devin Singletary in the backfield.

On Wednesday, the team made yet another major acquisition that will take this offense to another level. The Texans made a trade with the Buffalo Bills, landing star wide receiver Stefon Diggs.

Houston is second a 2025 second-round pick via the Minnesota Vikings to Buffalo. In exchange, they will receive Diggs, a sixth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and a fifth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Stroud now has one of the strongest groups of skill position players around him. Diggs is joining a group that emerging star Nico Collins and stellar rookie Tank Dell atop the depth chart in 2023. Veterans Robert Woods and Noah Brown stepped up when injuries occurred, as the wide receiver depth chart is deep and talented in Houston.

Sticking Diggs atop that group shows that the Texans are looking to make a run at it and rightfully so. After winning a playoff game this past season, it makes sense to go as all-in as possible.

The window for contention in the NFL is sometimes a small one. When you have a quarterback who is as good as Stroud on a rookie contract, you need to maximize those savings by spending elsewhere on the roster.

The Texans have done that, bringing in proven veterans such as Mixon and Diggs to help raise the floor of this team. Houston is going to be a popular Super Bowl dark horse for the 2024 season, especially if the young guys continue developing and taking steps forward.
