New York Knicks Receive Big Injury Update On OG Anunoby

OG Anunoby, the versatile forward for the New York Knicks, expressed confidence in his return to the court for the remainder of the regular NBA season.

Following a surgical procedure on his right elbow to address a loose bone fragment on February 8, Anunoby remains upbeat about his recovery progress.

Originally acquired from the Toronto Raptors, Anunoby’s impact on the Knicks has been profound, with the team boasting an impressive 12-2 record with him in the lineup. Renowned for his defensive prowess, Anunoby has been averaging 15.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game across 14 appearances for the Knicks, who currently hold a 33-22 record for the season.

Earning $18.6 million this season, Anunoby faces a significant decision regarding his future, with the potential to opt for unrestricted free agency this summer if he declines his $19.9 million player option for the 2024-25 season. NBA insider Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports suggests that Anunoby might consider a contract adjustment to remain with the Knicks, who presently hold the fourth spot in the Eastern Conference standings.

Despite a recent slump, culminating in four consecutive losses to the Dallas Mavericks, Indiana Pacers, Houston Rockets, and Orlando Magic, the Knicks look to regroup as they kick off the second half of the season against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Anunoby boasts career averages of 12.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game, spanning his tenure with both the Raptors and the Knicks. Notably, he played a pivotal role in the Raptors’ championship victory over the Golden State Warriors in 2019.

In response to ongoing injury challenges, the Knicks bolstered their roster by acquiring Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks from the Detroit Pistons at the NBA trade deadline. However, the team continues to grapple with multiple players on the injury report, including OG Anunoby, Bogdanovic, Julius Randle, Mitchell Robinson, Donte DiVincenzo, and Isaiah Hartenstein.
