Houston Texans Projected To Make Massive Free Agency Splash

The Houston Texans have already established themselves with an impressive receiving duo in Nico Collins and Tank Dell. However, there is speculation about whether they might pursue another notable wide receiver, Mike Evans, in the upcoming free agency period.

According to Cody Benjamin from CBS Sports, there is a possibility that Evans could sign with the Texans this spring. Benjamin points out that Evans has Texas roots and suggests that Tom Brady, who has a connection with Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud, could influence this decision.

In the 2023 season, Mike Evans had a stellar performance with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, playing in all games and recording 79 receptions for 1,255 yards, along with a league-leading 13 touchdowns. This outstanding performance earned him his fifth Pro Bowl selection and marked his tenth consecutive 1,000-yard season.

Evans, a product of Texas A&M, was initially drafted by the Buccaneers as the seventh overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. He quickly made a name for himself in his rookie year with 68 catches for 1,051 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Throughout his career, Mike Evans has remained loyal to Tampa Bay, with his standout season occurring in 2018 when he secured 86 receptions for 1,524 yards and eight touchdowns. While he hasn’t earned First-Team All-Pro honors, he has been recognized with two Second Team All-Pro selections, including one in the most recent season.

The Texans head into the offseason with a considerable amount of cap space, making it financially feasible for them to add Mike Evans to their already impressive roster of wide receivers. The prospect of having a trio of Evans, Collins, and Dell, especially with Stroud as their quarterback, is an enticing one.

In the coming month-and-a-half, we will find out whether the Texans will indeed make a substantial push to acquire Mike Evans.
