Hawks’ Asking Price For Dejounte Murray Revealed

With just about two weeks until the NBA Trade Deadline, the Atlanta Hawks are one of the teams who have been involved in plenty of rumors. The player most of those rumors are centered around is guard Dejounte Murray.

The Hawks made a splash during the 2022 offseason when they acquired Murray from the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for three first-round picks and Danilo Gallinari. They were hopeful that he would be the perfect pairing along with Trae Young in their backcourt, but the results haven’t been as positive as they were hoping.

The Hawks went 41-41 last season and head coach Nate McMillan was fired during the season. Young’s usage rate remained exorbitant, as the addition of Murray didn’t provide as much of an upgrade as the team thought he would.

This season, things are even uglier in Atlanta. The Hawks are 18-25 and while they have a high-scoring offense, their defense has been awful once again. On the outside looking in of the playoff picture, they are looking to shake things up.

However, making a deal with the Hawks for Murray will be easier said than done. The asking price for him is very high according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, who is reporting that Atlanta is looking for two first-round picks and a starting-level player in return for Murray.

“A deal highlighted by the No. 35 pick probably isn’t going to strike Atlanta’s fancy for Murray, considering the Hawks, at present, are searching for a pair of first-round picks plus a starting-level player for their All-Star combo guard, league sources told Yahoo Sports,” wrote Fischer.

Those negotiations will likely go down to the wire as no team in the NBA is going to meet that price right now. Teams who are looking for backcourt help can pivot to Malcolm Brogdon of the Portland Trail Blazers or Jordan Clarkson of the Utah Jazz.

While Brogdon and Clarkson may not have the ceiling or youth of Murray, they will cost a fraction of the price. Terry Rozier was acquired from the Charlotte Hornets by the Miami Heat for a 2027 first-round pick and Kyle Lowry, which gives a good indication of how expensive the asking price is that the Hawks have set.
