Report: 76ers Not Pursuing Wizards’ Tyus Jones

According to NBA insider Matt Moore of Action Network, the Philadelphia 76ers are not interested in trading for Washington Wizards guard Tyus Jones.

Moore originally reported that the Sixers were going to pursue Jones, but a league source familiar with Philadelphia’s plans indicated that the franchise was not.

“League sources familiar with the Sixers’ plans indicated after publish this is inaccurate and the Sixers are not pursuing Tyus Jones,” Moore wrote. “The Sixers have a whopping $103 million in expiring contracts.”

Jones, 27, is averaging 12.6 points, 2.9 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.3 blocks this season while shooting 52.0% from the field, 42.1% from beyond the arc and 75.0% from the free-throw line. He’s making $14 million in the final year of his contract.

Jones has career averages of 7.2 points, 1.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.1 blocks with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Memphis Grizzlies and Wizards. He’s one of the top passers in the NBA and doesn’t turn the ball over that much.

According to NBA insider Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, rival executives expect Sixers general manager Daryl Morey to continue gauging the trade market through the deadline. However, Morey is not expected to trade for Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine or Atlanta Hawks guard Dejounte Murray.

The Sixers are 28-13 on the season. They are in third place in the Eastern Conference standings. Morey doesn’t have to make a trade since the team is playing well right now. Philadelphia is sixth in the NBA in points per game and eighth in points per game allowed.
