Dejounte Murray ‘Would Welcome’ Hawks Trading Him Back To Spurs

The Atlanta Hawks are expected to trade Dejounte Murray and the guard “would welcome” getting traded back to the San Antonio Spurs.

The Spurs are interested in trading for Murray, who began his career in San Antonio.

The Spurs traded Murray to the Hawks in June 2022. Murray appeared in 320 games with the Spurs before getting traded to the Hawks. He averaged 12.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.3 blocks.

“I tell several people who I stand for as a person,” Murray told Marc J. Spears of Andscape. “That is who Dejounte Murray is. As a man or person, however you want to put it, it’s not appropriate for me to talk about that or let that get in the way for my teammates. I love my teammates. My teammates love me. I’m not a GM, owner, an agent, none of those things. I’m a basketball player. I’m a hooper. So, I continue to learn, lead and work hard.”

Murray is averaging 20.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.3 blocks this season while shooting 46.7% from the field, 38.6% from beyond the arc and 82.1% from the free-throw line. The Washington product and one-time All-Star is making $17.7 million.

The Hawks signed Murray to a four-year, $114 million extension in July. Murray, one of the top two-way players in the NBA, will make $24.8 million in 2024-25 and $26.8 million in 2025-26.

A Seattle native, Murray has career averages of 14.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.3 blocks with the Spurs and Hawks. He made the 2017-18 All-Defensive Second Team and won the 2021-22 steals title as a member of the Spurs.
