Trade Proposal Sends Blazers’ Jerami Grant To Mavericks

One NBA writer is proposing that the Dallas Mavericks acquire Jerami Grant from the Portland Trail Blazers.

Dan Favale of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Mavericks and Blazers:

Dallas Mavericks Receive: Jerami Grant

Portland Trail Blazers Receive: Richaun Holmes, Maxi Kleber, Olivier-Maxence Prosper, 2026 first-round pick (top-six protection; pending 2026 obligation to New York), 2028 first-round swap (top-eight protection)

Grant signed a five-year, $160 million contract with the Blazers in July. His trade restriction no longer exists and Favale believes Grant can help the Mavericks.

“Dallas has previously been linked to Grant but apparently believed the cost was too high,” Favale wrote in his NBA trade proposal. “And, well, it’s not going down now. Grant is averaging nearly 22 points while knocking down 42 percent of his threes and flirting with league-average shooting efficiency overall despite a featured role that ever so modestly overstretches his skill set.”

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Jerami Grant, Dallas Mavericks Updates

Grant is averaging 21.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.7 blocks this season while shooting 45.5% from the field, 41.1% from beyond the arc and 80.2% from the free-throw line. The forward is making $27.6 million.

The Mavericks could start Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, Grant Williams, Grant and Dereck Lively II if Dallas’ front office figured out a way to acquire Grant from Portland.

“Joining the Mavs as the No. 3 option would suit him—a perfect balance of restraint and centrality,” Favale wrote in his NBA trade proposal. “And Dallas should be prepared to pony up this much to land him. The Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving timeline is now, and the Mavs, on many nights, look good enough to triple-down on it.”

The Mavericks are in seventh place in the Western Conference standings, while the Blazers are in 14th place. It makes no sense for Portland to keep Grant since the franchise is in rebuild mode.

Grant has career averages of 12.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 0.7 steals and 1.1 blocks with the Philadelphia 76ers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons and Blazers. It will be interesting to see if the swingman gets traded this season.
