Source: Pacers, Raptors Talks Ramping Up Around Pascal Siakam

The 2023-24 NBA trade deadline continues to draw closer and the February 8th deadline is causing teams to get busy. Two of those teams are the Indiana Pacers and Toronto Raptors. Over the last few weeks, rumors have been swirling about the two teams coming together on a Pascal Siakam trade.

Siakam is readily available as the Raptors continue looking to re-tool their roster. The Pacers, who tried to get OG Anunoby from Toronto before he was traded to the New York Knicks, have pivoted to Siakam.

According to one league source, the Pacers and Raptors have been engaged in serious discussions about Siakam this week.

No Siakam trade is going to be cheap, but the Pacers have a great bargaining chip. Siakam is set to hit the open free agency market in the coming offseason. Indiana can simply play hard ball and wait for the Raptors to come down to their offer.

Right now, according to the source, Bennedict Mathurin has not been discussed by Indiana in any trade scenario. It seems that the Pacers view him as untouchable. That could change, but it’s unlikely that he would be included in any swap for Siakam in the final year of his contract.

The pieces most attached to these talks from Indiana’s side are Andrew Nembhard and Isaiah Jackson. Indiana also has draft capital that they could use in a trade. Right now, the Raptors are pushing for Jarace Walker to be included in the package.

While the two sides have not agreed on a deal by any stretch, they are actively talked with each other. The Pacers would love to add Siakam alongside Tyrese Haliburton. It’s possible they simply wait until the offseason to use their cap space to sign a secondary star, but if Toronto is willing to accept a bit less now, Pascal Siakam could be in Indiana by the trade deadline.
