Blockbuster Trade Proposal Sends Hawks’ Dejounte Murray To 76ers

One NBA writer is proposing that the Philadelphia 76ers acquire Dejounte Murray from the Atlanta Hawks.

Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report proposed the following trade idea between the Sixers and Hawks:

The Atlanta Hawks trade Dejounte Murray to the Philadelphia 76ers for Robert Covington, Jaden Springer, Danuel House Jr., a 2026 first-round pick (via OKC, HOU or LAC) and a 2028 first-round pick (via LAC)

The Sixers are interested in acquiring Murray from the Hawks, according to NBA insider Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report, and Buckley believes Murray can help Philadelphia.

“Philly fetched enough assets in the James Harden deal to trade for a star, and Murray could be an interesting option to explore,” Buckley wrote. “He’d fit an interchangeable backcourt with Tyrese Maxey, as both can create, drive or add value off the ball. Plus, their minutes could be staggered to keep a high-end initiator on the floor at all times.”

The Sixers could start Murray, Tyrese Maxey, Kelly Oubre Jr., Tobias Harris and Joel Embiid if Philadelphia’s front office figured out a path to acquire Murray from Atlanta. Murray is widely expected to be traded before the trade deadline in February.

A one-time All-Star, Murray is averaging 20.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.3 blocks this season while shooting 46.7% from the field, 38.4% from beyond the arc and 80.7% from the free-throw line. He’s making $17.7 million.

The Hawks signed Murray to a four-year, $114 million veteran contract extension in July. Murray will make $24.8 million next season.

The Sixers are 23-12 on the season. They are in third place in the Eastern Conference standings. Daryl Morey doesn’t have to make a trade at the deadline, but since he’s one of the most aggressive executives in the NBA, most league insiders expect Morey to make another deal after sending James Harden to the Los Angeles Clippers in November.
