Report: Pelicans Interested In Trading For Cavaliers’ Jarrett Allen

The New Orleans Pelicans are interested in trading for Cleveland Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.

Several playoff contenders have shown interest in Allen, who has two years remaining on a five-year, $100 million contract he signed with the Cavaliers in August 2021.

“Yet Allen remains high on that proverbial list, with two years remaining on a five-year, $100 million contract that will draw, and has drawn, plenty of interest from playoff contenders like the New Orleans Pelicans, league sources told Yahoo Sports,” Fischer wrote.

The Cavaliers have three All-Stars on the roster: Allen, Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell. According to Fischer, Cleveland has no plans to trade its star players, so it looks like the Pelicans will have to pivot off of Allen.

Allen is averaging 12.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.0 blocks this season while shooting 67.2% from the field and 68.6% from the free-throw line. He has five double-doubles. The Cavaliers are 15-12. They are in sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings.

The Pelicans are 16-12 on the season. They are in seventh place in the West.

The 25-year-old Allen has career averages of 12.1 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.3 blocks with the Brooklyn Nets and Cavaliers. The Pelicans’ starting big man is Jonas Valanciunas. New Orleans has been looking to upgrade at the center spot since the end of last season, but there doesn’t appear to be a trade available to the team.
