NFL Writer Urges Seahawks To Trade For Bears’ Justin Fields

Could the Seattle Seahawks make a play for Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields this offseason?

Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports poses the possibility.

The Seahawks handed Geno Smith a three-year deal last offseason, but Smith had a rather disappointing 2023 campaign that was riddled with injuries toward the end.

As a result, Seattle may go in search of a younger option, and if the Bears decide to put Fields up for trade, he could be a terrific option for the club. The Seahawks could then designates Smith as a post-June 1 cut, which would save the team a hefty $22.5 million.

Fields is currently in limbo in Chicago. The Bears own the No. 1 overall pick (via the Carolina Panthers), so many feel they will end up taking a quarterback with the top selection. That would obviously put a period at the end of Fields’ tenure in the Windy City.

However, there is also a chance the Bears keep Fields, as his teammates love him, and he has also begun to develop favor with some in the organization.

Fields played in 13 games this past season, missing four contests due to a dislocated thumb. When he was on the field, he threw for 2,562 yards, 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions while completing 61.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 86.3. In addition, he rushed for 657 yards and four scores.

The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Ohio State, was selected by Chicago with the 11th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Fields’ young career has largely been defined by inconsistency, although he hasn’t exactly been dealt the best hand with the Bears.

It’s clear that Fields has talent and it’s just a matter of him putting it all together. The question is, will he ever actually do that and maintain it?

Regardless, if Chicago does decide to move Justin Fields, Seattle will unquestionably represent an interesting team to monitor given its rather unstable situation under center.
