Las Vegas Raiders Close To Making Shocking GM Hire

The Las Vegas Raiders appear to have identified their next general manager, with reports indicating that former Los Angeles Chargers general manager, Tom Telesco, is likely to assume the same role.

Telesco was let go by the Chargers just last month.

Tom Telesco had a noteworthy tenure spanning ten years with the Chargers, initially joining them after working in the Indianapolis Colts’ scouting department.

During his time with the Chargers, he made impactful moves like drafting Keenan Allen in the third round and securing top talents like Joey Bosa, Derwin James, and Justin Herbert with top-10 selections.

Despite boasting impressive rosters, the Chargers have not reached the AFC Championship Game in 17 years and only made it to the playoffs three times during Telesco’s tenure. His departure from the Chargers came after a humiliating 63-21 loss to the Raiders on December 14, resulting in the firing of both Telesco and head coach Brandon Staley.

Interestingly, Telesco is now on the verge of potentially joining the Raiders, their recent rival, which contributed to his exit from the Chargers.

This move comes after the Raiders had earlier dismissed their general manager, David Ziegler, and head coach Josh McDaniels. Antonio Pierce, who led the team to a 5-4 finish as interim coach, was named the full-time head coach last Friday.

According to The Athletic’s Vic Tafur, Telesco had his second interview with the Raiders on Monday, signaling significant progress in the hiring process. Additionally, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo mentioned that Raiders interim GM Champ Kelly and Colts assistant GM Ed Dodds were also contenders for the position.

If Tom Telesco secures the role of general manager for the Raiders, his responsibilities will include making critical decisions about the future of star free-agent running back Josh Jacobs and addressing the team’s need for a long-term quarterback.
