Giants Predicted To Make Major ‘Splash’ In NFL Free Agency

The New York Giants 2023 season was a major disappointment and their offseason could not have gotten off to much worse of a start. Defensive coordinator Wink Martindale resigned from his position and there have been rumors leaking about head coach Brian Daboll’s handling of situations.

This is a very important offseason for the Giants, as a lot is on the line. Daboll has to change the perception that is being shared about him as a head coach. This could be Joe Schoen’s best chance to land a quarterback for his tenure to be defined. The roster also needs some work, which will fall on his shoulder in free agency.

There are numerous holes on this roster as currently constructed. There are certainly some building blocks, such as left tackle Andrew Thomas, defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, outside linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux and linebacker Bobby Okereke. Other solid players are present, but those are the four who stand out as pillars on the team.

NFL NEWS & RUMORS: Bryce Huff, New York Jets, 2024 NFL Free Agency, New York Giants Updates

Upgrading the supporting cast around those players is a must this offseason. One area the team should look to upgrade is their edge rushers. The Giants’ group underwhelmed last season getting after the quarterback, as most of their success came from exotic blitzes drawn up by Martindale.

Looking to change that, NFL writer Aaron Schatz of ESPN believes the Giants will dip into free agency and add to their edge rushing group. He is predicting the team will sign Bryce Huff of the New York Jets to a sizable contract.

“The Giants will make a splash with a surprisingly big free agent contract for edge rusher Bryce Huff, currently of the crosstown Jets. Huff has started only seven games in his career but is a bit of a secret star with a 23.5% career pass rush win rate,” Schatz wrote.

Huff made it clear following the Jets’ regular-season finale that there would be no hometown discount for the team. He is going to explore the market and given the assets they have used at his position in recent seasons, there is a good chance he is on the move.

The Jets used first-round picks on Jermaine Johnson II and Will McDonald IV in consecutive years. A three-man rotation is certainly warranted in the NFL, but can they justify paying Huff the kind of money he is projected to be a rotational piece?

NFL NEWS & RUMORS: Bryce Huff, New York Jets, 2024 NFL Free Agency, New York Giants Updates

Huff is projected to sign a three-year, $40 million deal in free agency by PFF, with $28 million guaranteed. That is a hefty price to pay for the Jets, but one the Giants should jump at offering. The team needs help in the pass-rushing department, especially with a new defensive scheme being used in 2024.

Huff would be an excellent addition to the Giants’ defensive front. Despite his limited playing time, he recorded a team-high 10.0 sacks with 10 tackles for loss and 21 quarterback hits. If he keeps up that kind of production for a full season, Huff will be one of the most valuable players in the NFL on that predicted contract.
