Texas A&M Visiting With Major Defensive Piece In Transfer Portal

The newly appointed head coach of Texas A&M, Mike Elko, has been making waves in the college football world by successfully recruiting ten players via the transfer portal.

Among these recruits is Nic Scourton, a former standout pass rusher from Purdue and a native of Bryan, Texas. Elko, who previously served as the head coach at Duke for the last two seasons, has maintained connections with some of his former Blue Devils players, including nickel cornerback Brandon Johnson.

Recent reports from AggiesToday have confirmed that Johnson, who has spent the past three seasons with Duke, is now embarking on an official visit to College Station.

This visit places him among a growing list of seasoned veterans who have chosen to join the Texas A&M Aggies through the transfer portal. Throughout his collegiate career, Johnson has primarily held the nickel cornerback position, amassing impressive statistics from 2021 to 2023, including 128 tackles (70 of which were solo tackles), 11 pass deflections, and two interceptions.

The pressing need for cornerback talent within the A&M roster has been no secret, and while the incoming junior hybrid safety, Bryce Anderson, is expected to take up the nickel role, Brandon Johnson brings with him a wealth of experience and a proven track record. His familiarity with Mike Elko’s defensive system and his ability to meet the demands of the position make him a valuable addition to the Aggies’ defense.

With Johnson’s arrival, Texas A&M aims to strengthen their cornerback position and bolster their defense for the upcoming season.
