Cardinals Reveal Brutal Injury Update On Offensive Star

What has been an entirely forgettable campaign for Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marquise Brown is finally coming to an end.

During his Friday press conference, Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon told reporters that the team has placed Brown on the injured reserve list, ending his 2023 season.

Brown has been battling a heel injury throughout the year.

In 14 games, Brown logged just 51 catches for 574 yards—a career low—and four touchdowns. Considering that the wide out will be a free agent at season’s end, it stands to reason that Brown has played his final snap in Arizona.

Brown was in his second year with the Cardinals after coming over in a trade with the Baltimore Ravens in April 2022.

His debut campaign in the desert was a bit more productive, as Brown caught 67 passes for 709 yards and three scores in 12 games last season.

Still, Brown was not able to match the type of production he posted while with the Ravens.

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Oklahoma, was originally selected by Baltimore with the 25th overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft.

He appeared in 14 contests during his rookie year, finishing with 46 grabs for 584 yards while reaching the end zone seven times. The following year, Brown showed some progression, totaling 58 catches for 769 yards and eight touchdowns.

Then, in 2021, Brown broke out, hauling in 91 receptions for 1,008 yards and six scores.

In spite of Brown’s breakthrough campaign that year, he asked for a trade that ensuing offseason, as he was dissatisfied with his role in the Ravens’ run-heavy offense.

Apparently, the Cardinals were also not able to provide him with the touches he was hoping for.

While Brown had a rather off year in 2023, he should still be one of the top wide receivers available on the free-agent market come springtime.
