This Cowboys-Saints Offseason Trade Features Alvin Kamara

The Dallas Cowboys may be in the market for a running back this offseason, and New Orleans Saints veteran Alvin Kamara could be someone the club considers for its backfield.

Kamara has spent his entire seven-year NFL career with the Saints, but his time in New Orleans may be coming to a close.

The five-time Pro Bowler has two years remaining on his contract after this season, and with his production clearly declining, the Saints could very well attempt to trade him.

In 10 games this year, Kamara has rushed for 564 yards and five touchdowns while averaging just 3.9 yards per carry. He is still a capable receiver, having logged 63 catches for 402 yards and a score, but it’s obvious that he is not quite the same threat he was several years ago.

Kamara would join a Cowboys group of halfbacks that already includes Tony Pollard and Rico Dowdle, so he would not necessarily be burdened with an incredibly heavy load.

Dallas could send a 2024 second-round draft pick to New Orleans in exchange for Kamara, which would provide the Cowboys with some extra versatility in their offense while also supplying the Saints with a Day 2 draft pick to help in retooling their roster.

It may end up being a relatively high price to pay for Kamara, as he will turn 29 years old over the summer and really has not been a very efficient running back since 2021. His last truly terrific campaign came back in 2020, when he totaled 932 yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground while registering five yards per tote.

Still, behind a great Dallas offensive line and with a quarterback like Dak Prescott running the show, Kamara could flourish once again. Maybe not like his 2020 self, but it’s entirely possible that a change of scenery would at least allow Kamara to have some sort of resurgence.

The idea of New Orleans being open to moving Alvin Kamara this coming offseason sounds realistic, and the Cowboys seem like prime candidates to jump at the chance to add him.
