The New York Yankees confirmed their starting lineup Monday prior to opening a series against the St. Louis Cardinals, placing recently acquired Luis Garcia Jr. in a featured spot.
Manager Aaron Boone listed the former Washington Nationals player at first base while batting him third in the order.
Garcia Jr., obtained through a Sunday trade, is prepared to make his debut with the club after conducting an introductory news conference during the afternoon. He will follow center fielder Trent Grisham and designated hitter Ben Rice in the batting sequence.
The complete group for the contest includes Grisham in center field, Rice serving as the designated hitter, Garcia Jr. handling first base, Spencer Jones in left field, Jasson Dominguez in right field, Jazz Chisholm Jr. at second base, Ryan McMahon at third base, Jose Caballero at shortstop and Austin Wells as the catcher.

Hopefully, Garcia is able to add some pop to a Yankees’ lineup that has badly needed help with the trio of Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Cody Bellinger sidelined due to injuries.
