As the New York Yankees look to continue their winning ways this season, they have recently been linked to a former MVP.

After a tough 2023 season, the New York Yankees are back and looking like a title contender this season. In the offseason, the Yankees pulled off the blockbuster deal to bring in Juan Soto. As an impending free agent, New York took a risk, but so far, it is paying off.

The Yankees feel like they are in a win-now mode and appear to be motivated to go all-in. Recently, it was reported that the Yankees might pursue Paul Goldschmidt in a trade. Here’s what the report from SI had to say.

“Even though the Yankees are getting more production from their veterans this season, rumors of a potential move between New York and the Cardinals involving Paul Goldschmidt surfaced last year,” Cook said. “With Juan Soto set to hit free agency next season, the Yankees must be all in to win a World Series this season. Even with Goldschmidt’s documented struggles this season, the fit in New York would do wonders for his confidence.”

Goldschmidt would be a big name for the Yankees to pursue, as he was the MVP in the 2022 season. However, at 36 years old, Goldschmidt might be starting to decline a bit in his production levels.

After his 2022 season, Goldschmidt saw a somewhat significant dip in his production last season, as he hit 10 fewer home runs and his batting average dropped about 50 points.

If the Yankees were to add Goldschmidt, they would have a very interesting combination to use at first base and potentially DH with him and Anthony Rizzo. So far, Rizzo is off to a good start this season, as he is hitting .265 with seven home runs and 22 RBIs.

With Rizzo playing well, Goldschmidt might be more of a platoon/bench player for the Yankees. At this stage in his career, he might be alright with that, as he seeks a championship.
