WNBA GMs Reveal Bold Take on Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese

Angel Reese, Chicago Sky

The Chicago Sky was one of the big winners in the 2024 WNBA Draft, coming away with two dominant frontcourt players in Kamilla Cardoso and Angel Reese. Cardoso, out of South Carolina, was selected No. 3 overall, while Reese, the LSU star, was selected No. 7.

With those two players in the mix, the Chicago Sky should be one of the most dominant interior teams in the league. Cardoso averaged 14.4 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game for the National Champion South Carolina squad.

Angel Reese, who helped lead LSU to a title in 2023, stuffed the stat sheet this past season as well. She averaged 18.6 points, 13.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.9 blocks per game. With that kind of production, it is a little surprising for many fans that she was still on the board when the Chicago Sky came on the clock for their second first-round pick.

Alas, the fans weren’t alone in that feeling. Recently, the results of the annual WNBA general managers survey were revealed. One of the questions was who they thought was the biggest steal in the 2024 WNBA Draft.

It was Angel Reese who ended up getting the most votes, as she was selected by 27 percent of the general managers. Coming in second on the list was Dyaisha Fair, who was the fourth pick of the second round, No. 16 overall to the Las Vegas Aces.

Fair received 17 percent of the vote. The other players who received votes as the biggest draft steal were Isobel Borlase, Marquesha Davis, Leila Lacan, Liz Kitley and Nika Muhl. Borlase, who was selected No. 20, will be staying overseas for the 2024 season.

With Cardoso sidelined for at least six weeks because of a shoulder injury, Angel Reese will have some time to shine in the Chicago Sky frontcourt on her own. She has been showing off her new shooting range in workout videos, as she quickly looks to prove the general managers right who selected her as the biggest steal in the 2024 WNBA Draft.
