Washington Wizards Listed as Favorites for Thunder’s Josh Giddey

The 2024 NBA offseason could be a busy one for the Oklahoma City Thunder. They announced their presence as contenders in the Western Conference and will be looking to fine-tune their roster. One of the players who could be part of that shuffle is Josh Giddey.

The No. 6 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft isn’t a perfect fit alongside MVP candidate, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Given the ascension of the team, finding someone who better fits within the rest of the young core would make sense.

Given the amount of assets the Thunder possess, they can be in the mix for literally any player in the NBA that becomes available. They are overflowing with draft capital and have young players that would appeal to other franchises.

Josh Giddey, who will be only 22 when the 2024-25 season begins, certainly has potential. He stuffs the stat sheet and is a capable NBA player, he just no longer fits in with the Thunder’s roster a core piece.

Where could Josh Giddey end up this offseason? According to Bovada Sportsbook, via NBACentral on X, the Washington Wizards have the best odds of landing him. They are listed at +450, right ahead of the Utah Jazz and New York Knicks, who are at +500.

The Wizards would certainly be an intriguing landing spot. Without much of a core to build around, Giddey could take over as their long-term point guard. Along with Bilal Coulibaly, Deni Avdija and another lottery pick this year, a new core could be formed in Washington.

The Jazz are another team that could be looking for a true lead-guard. In a rebuild themselves after trading Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert in the 2022 NBA offseason, they could certainly take a shot on Josh Giddey.

Seeing the New York Knicks on the list that highly is certainly eye-catching. New York has been patient and has the means to make an acquisition. But some of the issues that plagued Giddey with the Thunder would continue with the Knicks, where Jalen Brunson is locked in as the lead guard.
