As we get closer to the MLB Trade Deadline, what might the MLB Trade Deadline look like for the Washington Nationals?

It has been a better-than-expected season in 2024 for the Washington Nationals, as they are currently in third place in the NL East. With the New York Mets and Miami Marlins struggling, the Nationals are looking to get closer to the caliber of the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies.

While the Nationals aren’t a World Series contender this season, they are quickly approaching getting ready to compete once again. Keeping in mind it wasn’t too long ago that the Nationals were one of the best teams in the National League, their rebuild is going fairly well.

As the Nationals get ready to compete soon, they will have the opportunity to make a few more trades come the trade deadline this summer. Recently, Jeff Passan spoke about the plan for the Nationals this summer, and it is once again to be a seller. Here’s what he had to say.

The Nationals are closer to contention than some might realize. Their starting pitching is legitimately good — particularly MacKenzie Gore, who looks like one of the 10 best pitchers in baseball on any given day — and their bullpen is right there as well.

For the Nationals, continuing to plan for the future makes a lot of sense. While winning games this season is good to see in their development, they have some good players on the team who might not be part of the long-term plan who the Nationals can flip into good prospects to strengthen the farm system.

With the Nationals being in a very challenging division, they have to plan out the final steps of their rebuild. The Braves and the Phillies aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. If the Nationals want to truly compete in the NL East, they will have to be as prepared as possible in the coming years.
