The Golden State Warriors waived 23-year-old guard Miles Kelly on Sunday after a 111-106 preseason victory over the Sacramento Kings at Chase Center, where Kelly did not appear.
In a related transaction, the team signed free agent forward Tyler Burton, with financial terms kept private under team policy.
Warriors public relations stated: “SAN FRANCISCO – The Golden State Warriors have waived guard Miles Kelly, it was announced today. In a related move, the Warriors have signed free agent forward Tyler Burton. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not announced.”
Kelly, a 6-foot-4 undrafted product of Georgia Tech and Auburn, spent his rookie NBA season with the Dallas Mavericks in 2025-26.
He appeared in 14 games for Dallas, all off the bench, averaging 3.1 points and 1.7 rebounds while shooting 36.4 percent from the field in 9.6 minutes per contest.
His stronger production came in the G League with the Texas Legends, where he averaged 21.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists across 33 games while converting 38.3 percent of his three-point attempts on nearly 300 tries.
Golden State acquired his returning-player rights from Texas earlier in the offseason and signed him to an Exhibit 10 training-camp deal on Sept. 27.
In preseason action, Kelly showed flashes, including a team-high 24 points on 6-of-11 three-pointers, plus seven rebounds and six assists in 28 minutes during a loss to Portland.
Across three preseason appearances he averaged 10.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 13.8 minutes.
The move is expected to send Kelly to the Santa Cruz Warriors, where the organization has prioritized movement shooters for developmental emphasis.
Burton, 26, previously appeared in 12 games for the Memphis Grizzlies as a rookie, averaging 10.8 points and 4.2 rebounds in 25.6 minutes with shooting splits of 37.5 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three.
His signing also comes via an Exhibit 10 agreement, a non-guaranteed camp deal that can include incentives if a player joins the G League affiliate.
The Warriors finished the 2025-26 regular season at 37-45, good for 10th in the Western Conference, before falling to the Phoenix Suns 111-96 in the play-in tournament.
Their 2026-27 regular-season opener is scheduled for Oct. 21 against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Roster trimming continues ahead of the Oct. 19 deadline for opening-day rosters of 18 players, with several other Exhibit 10 invitees still on the books.
Kelly’s path from limited NBA minutes to high-volume G League scoring illustrates the developmental route many undrafted wings take before another NBA opportunity arises.
