Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Speaks on Yankees Trade Rumors

Toronto Blue Jays slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has been involved in plenty of trade rumors recently. With the team struggling, losing seven games in a row, those rumors are only going to get louder. One of the teams who could show interest is the New York Yankees.

The Blue Jays’ AL East rivals have a need at first baseman with Anthony Rizzo struggling before going on the IL with an injury. Aiding a team in their division isn’t ideal, but if the Yankees present the strongest offer, the front office would be doing a disservice not accepting it.

In the past, going to the Yankees was something that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was not fond of. He has previously said that he would never suit up in pinstripes, but his stance on the subject has been changing.

Now in last place and 16 games behind the Yankees, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was asked about the possibility of being traded there. It is something he is now open to, as he recognizes that the MBL is a business.

“Sometimes one says things. It is not that I am trying to take back what I said about the Yankees,” Guerrero told Virus Deportivo on Monday. “But this is a business. I sat down and spoke with my dad [Vladimir Guerrero Sr.] and my family, and this is a business. And I said I would never again talk about this topic and lots of people have asked me about it.”

In 2022, he said that he would never sign a deal with the Yankees. A year later, he revealed it was a thing with his family that had him feeling as strongly as he did about the Bronx Bombers.

“Like I tell you, I’m a player and if a team picks me or if they do something, it’s because they need it, obviously, and I’ll be happy to help any team,” Guerrero told Virus Deportivo on Monday. “But right now, I’m just focused on helping my team try to get out of this bad streak.” (H/T ESPN)

Acquiring Vladimir Guerrero Jr. would be a major boost for the Yankees lineup. The team is going to try to patch things together with veteran J.D. Davis and rookie Ben Rice until then, but a more established option would benefit the team.

The Toronto star would certainly suffice. It would be interesting to see what negotiations would look like between the teams as the Blue Jays would assuredly ask for more from the Yankees in exchange for Vladimir Guerror Jr. as divisional foes.
