The Toronto Blue Jays headed into a critical stretch of the season looking for answers after a disappointing weekend in New York. An 8-3 loss to the Yankees on Sunday completed a series sweep that stalled recent momentum.
Before that setback, Toronto had taken seven of its previous 10 games and climbed back into the American League wild-card conversation. The club now sits a game and a half behind the final playoff spot as it returns home Tuesday to open a three-game set against the Kansas City Royals.
Amid the roster shuffling that accompanies any late-August series, the organization made a quiet but notable move with one of its minor-league pitchers. T.J. Brock, a 27-year-old right-hander assigned to Double-A New Hampshire, was placed on the seven-day injured list Monday.
No specific injury was disclosed. The placement comes as Brock continues a lengthy recovery from Tommy John surgery performed early in 2025, a procedure that cost him the entire season and has limited his innings ever since.
Brock’s baseball path has been defined as much by health setbacks as by performance. Elbow issues restricted him to roughly 11 innings in 2024, though he still earned a Rising Star nod in the Arizona Fall League that autumn.
After the 2025 operation he worked his way back through the Florida Complex League and a rehab stint with High-A Dunedin in July before rejoining the Fisher Cats. In a small 2026 sample he has posted an 8.22 ERA across eight appearances totaling 7⅔ innings. His career minor-league numbers stand at 8-1 with a 4.61 ERA, 14 saves and 140 strikeouts in 84 innings.
What has made Brock unusually visible beyond prospect lists is an unexpected internet fame that surfaced last October. Social-media users circulated clips and photos that appeared to place the Cincinnati native in the circle of late Chicago rapper King Von.
Reports described Brock appearing in music videos, standing on stage during performances, receiving likes on Instagram from the rapper, and carrying a tattoo of one of Von’s aliases.
Additional connections to other artists circulated as well, earning Brock the informal online moniker “O Block Brock.” In a July interview during his Dunedin rehab assignment, Brock attributed the associations to an outgoing personality and a genuine interest in both baseball and rap rather than any deeper involvement.
The Blue Jays left Brock unprotected in last December’s Rule 5 draft after four professional seasons and again face the same decision this coming winter.
No team selected him a year ago, yet another largely lost season could determine whether he remains in the organization.
For now, the focus stays on the major-league club’s attempt to regain traction against Kansas City while one of its more talked-about farmhands once more waits on the sidelines.
