Despite having some injury struggles in recent years, it was announced that Tiger Woods will be playing in the 2024 U.S. Open after accepting an exemption.
This is certainly great news for golf fans, who want to see Tiger on the course for another major championship. At the Masters, Woods was back on the course, as injuries have hampered him in recent years.
So far this season, Woods has appeared in two events, as he played in the Genesis Invitational in February, but withdrew early. At the Masters, Woods was able to finish the event, which is certainly an accomplishment, but finished in 60th place.
Tiger Woods recently commented on getting a special exemption for the event. Here’s what he said about the upcoming US Open.
“The U.S. Open, our national championship, is a truly special event for our game and one that has helped define my career,” Woods said in a statement. “I’m honored to receive this exemption and could not be more excited for the opportunity to compete in this year’s U.S. Open, especially at Pinehurst, a venue that means so much to the game.”
Woods is a three-time US Open winner, as he won the tournament last in 2008. While Woods might not realistically be able to compete over four days against some of the most talented players in the world, it is still huge for the game to have him on the course.
The next three months of golf now seem to be set for Tiger, who will next appear at the PGA Championship in the middle of May, followed by the US Open, and then the British Open in July.
Hopefully, Tiger Woods can remain healthy and keep to a schedule of playing in tournaments about once a month. As we head into the major stretch of the season, all eyes will be on Woods as always.
