Tiger Woods offered one of his clearest public updates in months Tuesday, telling a small group at a charity clinic that his golf swing has come far enough for him to strike nearly every club in the bag.
Woods was on the range at Liberty National Golf Club during the NEXUS Cup, the invitation-only amateur team event his TGR Foundation has hosted since 2019. Video circulating on social media showed the 15-time major champion hitting balls for the first time since a March rollover crash on Jupiter Island, Florida.
Asked how his game was coming along, Woods said, “I can hit pretty much anything.” He repeated the same assessment when the questioner pressed him about his current routine.
He also acknowledged he felt “a little stiff today” after spending the previous evening socializing with guests at the event.
The clips gave fans their first real look at Woods swinging in public since the crash and the legal case that followed. They also revived talk about when, or whether, he might return to tournament golf.
Woods gave no timetable. His comments suggested he can produce a wide range of shots, but they stopped well short of saying he is ready for a 72-hole professional week.
He has not teed it up in an official event since the 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon, where he missed the cut after rounds of 79 and 77. That appearance capped a thin 2024 season in which he played only a handful of official starts.
The long layoff has been defined by surgeries. Woods has undergone seven back operations, including a lumbar disc replacement at L4-L5 in October 2025 after scans showed a collapsed disc, fragments and a compromised spinal canal. He also had surgery in March 2025 to repair a ruptured left Achilles tendon.
Those procedures came on top of the severe damage to his lower right leg from a February 2021 car accident that nearly cost him the limb.
The latest chapter began March 27, when Woods’ SUV struck a trailer and rolled on a residential road near his home. On Sept. 2 he pleaded no contest to reckless driving and refusing a urine test. Prosecutors dropped the DUI charge. His driver’s license was suspended for five years.
His presence at Liberty National had been in doubt because of that case and a PGA Tour meeting earlier in the week. The NEXUS Cup itself is limited to 18 foursomes and mixes two days of team golf with dinners and auctions that raise money for the TGR Foundation’s education programs.
The course also carries future Tour significance. Liberty National will host the 2027 BMW Championship, the penultimate FedExCup Playoffs event, from Aug. 16-22. The club previously staged the 2017 Presidents Cup and a FedExCup Playoffs stop in 2019.
Woods, who turned 50 in December 2025, still owns 82 PGA Tour victories, tied with Sam Snead for the most all time, and 15 major titles, second only to Jack Nicklaus. Those numbers keep the speculation alive even as his body and legal issues have kept him off the leaderboard.
For now, the only confirmed golf is the kind he showed Tuesday: a clinic, a few swings and a short, encouraging answer. Whether that leads to a competitive return remains unanswered.
