As the college football transfer portal prepares to activate on Friday, January 2, the quarterback market already features several standout names ready to attract major attention.

Programs pursuing an elite passer must prioritize strong Name, Image, and Likeness arrangements, given the escalating financial demands from top-tier talents.

Brendan Sorsby, the dynamic leader for Cincinnati, delivered a standout performance throughout the 2025 campaign, drawing interest from various Big 12 rivals and Southeastern Conference schools.

Industry insider Pete Nakos from On3 noted that Texas Tech currently leads the pack in early projections for securing Sorsby’s commitment, with LSU also showing significant involvement.

“Sourcing continues to indicate that the early school to watch is Texas Tech,” Nakos wrote. “He threw for 2,800 yards with 27 touchdowns to just five interceptions this season. Another name worth mentioning is LSU, sources tell On3.”

Sorsby’s impressive contributions within the Big 12 conference position him for a substantial NIL package, with On3 estimating his current market worth at $2.4 million—a figure that could climb higher amid competitive offers from powerhouse programs.

Across 12 games with the Bearcats this year, Sorsby accumulated 2,800 passing yards, 27 touchdown throws, and only five picks, while achieving a 61.6 percent completion rate.

His mobility added another dimension to his game, as he rushed for 580 yards and scored nine times on the ground.

Cincinnati may face difficulties retaining Sorsby, particularly with aggressive pursuit from programs boasting robust NIL funding, such as Texas Tech. The Red Raiders need a new starter following the departure of fifth-year veteran Behren Morton, though their immediate priority lies with ongoing College Football Playoff commitments.

Sorsby’s proven output and experience within the conference make him a strong match for Texas Tech’s system as they plan ahead for the next season.

With the portal window approaching, Sorsby’s decision will undoubtedly shape quarterback landscapes for multiple contenders seeking immediate impact.
