The Golden State Warriors are signaling a strong resurgence as potential NBA Finals contenders, a status they haven’t held since their championship win in the 2021-22 season.

This comeback is marked by their recent string of victories, including a decisive 118-104 win against the Denver Nuggets. Stephen Curry emphasized the team’s heightened performance under pressure.

“[There’s a] sense of urgency down the stretch,” Curry said. “The feeling of where you are in the standings, every game mattering. And the idea that the chess match of ‘how do we win this particular game?’ becomes a little bit more important. We thrive off of that. That’s why we’ve been so successful for this many years. Because as the stakes rise, the lights get brighter, we tend to level up.”

Friday’s game showcased the Warriors’ resilience. Despite Denver’s explosive start with 44 points in the first quarter, Golden State clamped down defensively, limiting the Nuggets to 60 points across the remaining quarters. Nikola Jokić put up a strong fight with 33 points, 12 rebounds, and nine assists, but the Warriors contained the rest of the Denver squad effectively.

The Warriors’ recent addition of Jimmy Butler has been transformative. Since his integration into the starting lineup on February 8, Butler has propelled them to the top of the league in defensive rating and steals.

Butler’s impact, along with Curry’s exceptional performance—scoring 36 points against the Nuggets and averaging over 35 points in his last three games—has reinvigorated the team.

Golden State’s record since Butler’s debut is impressive: 21-5, which places them fifth in the Western Conference. They are now contenders for a top playoff spot, closely trailing the Los Angeles Lakers.

The synergy between Curry and Butler, both renowned for their playoff prowess, sets a promising stage for the Warriors. Curry remains optimistic about their progress, stating, “We’re playing like that,” when asked about their contender status, though he acknowledges, “We still have a lot of work to do to finish the year strong.”

With the playoffs approaching, the Warriors are shaping up to make the postseason and potentially advance deep, leveraging their seasoned leadership and revitalized defensive strategies.
