The Pittsburgh Steelers have reportedly reached out to the Green Bay Packers to check on the availability of cornerback Carrington Valentine, according to a report this week.
Packer Report’s Easton Butler said the Steelers are among three teams that have contacted Green Bay about a possible trade for the 24-year-old defensive back. The Miami Dolphins and Cincinnati Bengals also made calls, Butler reported.
“Teams have been calling the Packers about the availability of CB Carrington Valentine,” Butler wrote. “The 3 teams that have called are the Pittsburgh Steelers, Miami Dolphins and Cincinnati Bengals.“
“Valentine is on the last year of his rookie deal, where he is scheduled to make $3.7 million this year.”
The Steelers already carry solid depth at cornerback heading into the 2026 season. Still, the interest in Valentine suggests the front office may be exploring ways to add another proven option to the secondary.
Valentine has started 30 games during his NFL career, including 11 last season. Across 49 total appearances, he has recorded 107 combined tackles, 18 pass defenses and two interceptions.
Green Bay selected Valentine in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft, taking him with the 232nd overall pick. He has developed into a reliable contributor for the Packers despite being a late-round choice.
For Pittsburgh, the secondary has been a point of focus in recent offseasons. The team has mixed veteran additions with younger players to maintain competitiveness in the AFC North.
Valentine’s contract situation makes him an intriguing trade target. With one year remaining on his rookie deal, any acquiring team would control him through the 2026 season before deciding on a long-term extension or letting him hit free agency.
Butler’s report did not indicate whether the Packers are actively shopping Valentine or simply fielding inquiries. Green Bay has its own decisions to make about its defensive depth chart as training camp and the preseason progress.
The Dolphins and Bengals face their own needs in the secondary. Miami has dealt with injuries and inconsistency at corner in recent years, while Cincinnati continues to look for ways to strengthen its pass defense.
For the Steelers, any potential deal would need to fit within their salary structure and draft capital plans. Trading for a player on a modest one-year salary could provide flexibility compared to pursuing higher-priced free agents.
Valentine’s physical tools and experience starting games give him appeal to multiple contenders. At 24, he still has room to grow if given an expanded role elsewhere.
