The Pittsburgh Steelers sit at 2-2 through four weeks of the 2026 season and remain committed to Aaron Rodgers under center for one final campaign.

Owen Crisafulli of Heavy noted that Rodgers has indicated he will retire after this season, leaving Pittsburgh in search of a long-term quarterback solution.

Crisafulli outlined a hypothetical blockbuster trade pitch that would send Super Bowl-winning Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts to the Steelers. In the proposal, Pittsburgh would receive Hurts while surrendering a 2027 first-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round selection.

Rodgers has completed 88 of 153 passes for 999 yards with seven touchdowns and four interceptions so far.

The 42-year-old has shown visible frustration with the offense at times, raising questions about whether the Steelers should accelerate their search for his successor.

Hurts has been similarly uneven for the Eagles, who are also 2-2. He has gone 68 of 114 for 713 yards, seven touchdowns and three interceptions while adding 105 rushing yards and one score on 21 carries. Philadelphia’s offense has struggled to recapture the form that produced a Super Bowl title in the 2024 season.

The Eagles recently traded Pro Bowl center Cam Jurgens, a move that fueled speculation about the franchise’s direction even as team officials maintain they are not rebuilding. Crisafulli noted that continued losses could shift Philadelphia’s stance quickly.

Hurts, still only 28, possesses proven championship pedigree and dual-threat ability. Acquiring a known commodity can sometimes prove simpler than drafting and developing a quarterback, and the Steelers have not hesitated to extend key players in recent years.

Hurts’ contract is set to expire after the 2027 season, which limits his long-term value in any potential trade talks. A first-round pick plus a fifth-rounder represents a modest return for a Super Bowl winner, particularly if the Eagles do not enter a full-scale fire sale.

Pittsburgh’s most straightforward path remains drafting and developing a quarterback in the coming offseason. Rodgers’ current production has not been disastrous, but the combination of his age, pending retirement and the offense’s early inconsistencies has invited outside speculation about alternatives.

Any deal involving Hurts would also require the Steelers to plan for a substantial contract extension relatively soon. At 28, Hurts still has prime years ahead, yet the financial commitment would be significant for a franchise already managing other veteran salaries.

Trade rumors involving Hurts have surfaced only briefly. The Eagles have shown no strong inclination to part with him, and Crisafulli emphasized that such a move would almost certainly require Philadelphia to signal a broader roster teardown.

For now, both teams appear focused on stabilizing their current situations. The Steelers will lean on Rodgers for the remainder of 2026, while the Eagles hope Hurts and the offense can rediscover consistency after a slow start.
