Aaron Rodgers paid a quiet but pointed tribute to former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin after the team’s 34-22 victory over the Indianapolis Colts, appearing at his postgame press conference in a T-shirt stamped with the letters “DGBTTF.”

The acronym, the quarterback explained, stood for one of Tomlin’s familiar refrains: “Don’t get beat to the flat.”

Rodgers made clear the gesture was not a message to the Colts defense but simply “an ode to Mike T,” a nod to the coach who had brought him to Pittsburgh and whose language still lingered in the building.

The timing carried weight. The Steelers had just rebounded from a frustrating Thursday-night loss to the Cleveland Browns in which Rodgers was seen exchanging words with current head coach Mike McCarthy and finished with two interceptions.

Against Indianapolis, the offense looked far more settled. Rodgers completed 22 of 31 passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns without a turnover, while Jaylen Warren added 101 rushing yards and scored both on the ground and on an 80-yard catch-and-run.

Pat Freiermuth caught two of the touchdowns, and the ball was distributed evenly enough that even DK Metcalf’s quiet afternoon against Sauce Gardner did not disrupt the overall flow. Pittsburgh improved to 3-0 at home, and the mood around the team felt lighter.

Tomlin, now watching from outside the organization, has long been known for a rotating set of catchphrases that players absorb whether they intend to or not.

A quick search of old video confirms he has used the flat-related warning more than once during his tenure. When a clip of Rodgers’ shirt and explanation was later shown to Tomlin on the Sunday Night Football pregame show, the former coach could see that at least one high-profile player had kept the language with him.

The moment underscored a relationship that, by all accounts, remained warm even after Tomlin’s departure.

Rodgers has spoken publicly about the ease he felt talking with Tomlin from their first offseason conversations onward, describing the coach more as a peer than a distant authority figure.

For a quarterback who has sometimes been cast as difficult with previous coaches, the public shout-out carried a different tone.

It suggested the Steelers’ current offensive success under McCarthy had not required Rodgers to set aside the voice of the coach who recruited him.

Whether the T-shirt was planned or spontaneous, it offered a small reminder that institutional memory in the NFL is not always limited to the current staff.

Pittsburgh next travels to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a team that has already shown it can challenge established defenses.

How the Steelers sustain the cleaner play they displayed against the Colts will matter more than any acronym, but Rodgers’ choice of wardrobe at least made clear whose old advice still travels with him.
