Seattle Mariners Pitching Has Been Playing Unreal This Season

The Seattle Mariners have maintained a commendable 17-14 record thus far in the season, positioning them at the helm of the fiercely contested AL West, a division boasting the last two World Series champions.

A cornerstone of the Mariners’ success lies in the caliber of their pitching roster.

According to a noteworthy statistic from Codify Baseball, the Mariners’ starting rotation has been particularly noteworthy. In a tweet, they highlighted, “Earned runs allowed by Mariners starters, last 18 games: 1, 0, 2, 2, 2, 1, 1, 0, 0, 1, 0, 2, 2, 1, 0, 2, 1, 0. That’s 18 earned runs in 18 starts and that’s totally ridiculous.”

However, this accolade predates their recent setback against the Atlanta Braves.

Up until Wednesday’s matchups, Seattle boasted the second-lowest ERA in MLB, standing at an impressive 3.03. Only the Boston Red Sox, with a remarkable 2.59 ERA, surpassed them at that juncture.

While the Mariners’ pitching prowess was acknowledged, the extent of their dominance has been nothing short of remarkable.

The starting rotation has played a pivotal role, particularly during their recent streak, enabling them to seize the top spot in the division.

Moreover, the team’s health has been a significant contributing factor, with only five pitchers taking the mound for starting duties—a scenario any team would aspire to achieve.

Even Emerson Hancock, with a 4.75 ERA, the weakest link among the starters, has exhibited significant improvement in recent performances, with his early struggles accounting for the inflated ERA.

The remainder of the pitching staff has been stellar: Logan Gilbert boasts a 2.03 ERA, closely followed by Bryce Miller at 2.04, each with six appearances. Luis Castillo holds a respectable 3.46 ERA, while George Kirby checks in at 4.18.

Achieving such consistency across the rotation is undeniably a remarkable feat.
