The Seattle Seahawks received encouraging injury news ahead of their Sunday night matchup against the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs, as linebacker Uchenna Nwosu and safety Nick Emmanwori are both expected to play despite hip issues that left them listed as questionable.
Ian Rapoport of NFL media reported the update on Sunday, citing sources who indicated the two defenders would be available for the prime-time contest at Lumen Field.
Both players appeared on the team’s injury report with limited practice participation earlier in the week, raising questions about their status against a Chiefs offense that has rolled to a 5-0 start.
Nwosu, an established edge presence, and Emmanwori, the second-year safety drafted in the second round in 2025, represent important pieces for a Seattle defense that has leaned on its front seven and secondary to control the run.
Emmanwori has dealt with ankle problems earlier this season and added the hip issue late in the week, while Nwosu’s hip concern also limited him in practices.
Their expected availability offers coach Mike Macdonald more options as the Seahawks try to slow former teammate Kenneth Walker III and the rest of Kansas City’s attack.
Seattle enters the game at 3-3 after consecutive losses to the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos. The team has shown flashes on defense, ranking among the better units against the run, but faces a stiff test from Patrick Mahomes and a Chiefs squad that has yet to lose.
Zach Charbonnet remains out with a knee injury, thinning the backfield, while other defenders such as DeMarcus Lawrence (knee) also carry questionable tags.
Getting Nwosu and Emmanwori onto the field would help offset those absences and give the unit better continuity against a Kansas City team missing wide receiver Rashee Rice and right tackle Jaylon Moore.
For a Seahawks club still searching for consistency in the NFC West, where the 49ers sit at 6-0, the defensive reinforcements matter.
Emmanwori’s hybrid ability and Nwosu’s pass-rush contributions could prove useful in a matchup where Seattle is favored by a few points at home.
The report from Rapoport aligns with earlier indications from local observers that the pair was trending toward playing, even if Macdonald had not publicly confirmed it after Friday’s practice.
With kickoff set for 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC, the final active lists will confirm whether both suit up.
Their expected return gives Seattle a better chance to keep the game competitive against one of the league’s early-season pacesetters.
