Friday morning, before Round 2 of the PGA Championship, did not get off to the start that world No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler was hoping. Heading to Valhalla to prepare for his second round of play, Scheffler was involved in an incident that seemed to be a misunderstanding about the flow of traffic.

Louisville Metro Police arrested Scottie Scheffler on Friday morning as he was pulling up to the entrance of the Valhalla Golf Club. After a man was struck and killed by a shuttle bus around 5 a.m. ET, traffic outside of the course had been stopped.

“According to ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington, who witnessed the incident, Scheffler was trying to drive around the crash scene on a median. A police officer instructed Scheffler to stop, but Scheffler continued to drive about 10 to 20 yards toward the entrance.

At one point, an officer attached himself to the side of Scheffler’s car. Scheffler stopped his car as he turned into the entrance of Valhalla Golf Club.”

Scottie Scheffler was getting to Valhalla early to start working out prior to his second round, which was scheduled for 10:08 a.m. ET. According to his attorney Steven Romines, it will be up to Scheffler if he wants to play his second round.

After being booked, Scheffler was released at 8:40 a.m. ET and was on his way back to Valhalla. There was already a lot of attention on him as the best golfer currently in the world, but even more, eyes will be watching Scheffler if he opts to play.

As shared by Connie Leonard on X, what Scottie Scheffler did in attempting to bypass the traffic stop and enter Valhalla this morning is something other golfers did successfully. She shared the update via Michael Collins of ESPN on TV.

As shared by ESPN, “Scheffler faces charges of second-degree assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and disregarding traffic signals from an officer directing traffic. The assault charge is a felony; the others are misdemeanors.”

We are going to see something unprecedented on Friday. It would be hard to imagine Scottie Scheffler not teeing off even if he doesn’t get his normal amount of preparation before a round in.
