With the MLB Trade Deadline getting closer, recent reports have been the Chicago White Sox could have a firesale. With that being said, could the San Diego Padres make another splash and land Garrett Crochet?

It has been an embarrassing season for the Chicago White Sox. With the team on pace to set a modern record in the loss column, they will be sellers at the trade deadline. Since the White Sox have such a poor record, there isn’t much talent to take from the team.

However, one of the appealing players that might be up for grabs is 24-year-old left-hander Garrett Crochet. Even though Crochet is young, the White Sox aren’t going anywhere anytime soon and he is thriving in his first season as a starter.

This season, Crochet has totaled 75.2 innings pitched, a 3.33 ERA, and is currently leading the American League in strikeouts. Crochet would be able to not only help a contender this season but with his age be a part of the future of a team that traded for him.

Recently, Bleacher Report spoke about the San Diego Padres as a great landing spot for Garrett Crochet and also put together a proposed deal. Here’s what they had to say.

Trade Proposal: San Diego Padres get LHP Garrett Crochet; Chicago White Sox get LHP Robby Snelling (Padres No. 2, MLB No. 17), RHP Dylan Lesko (Padres No. 3, MLB No. 56), SS Leodalis De Vries (Padres No. 5)

This would be quite the haul for the White Sox to start restocking for a rebuild. But, most notably about this package; catcher Ethan Salas isn’t included in the deal. Salas might be considered to be untouchable in trades, and deservingly so.

If the Padres were able to acquire Garrett Crochet, it would help a rotation that is dealing with a lot of injuries. While catching the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West might not be realistic, the San Diego Padres could have their eyes on a wild card spot and will take their chances from there.
