As per NBA insider Josh Robbins of The Athletic, the Sacramento Kings have held a long-standing interest in acquiring Washington Wizards’ forward, Kyle Kuzma.
The Kings have set their sights on bringing Kuzma to their roster during this season.
“League sources maintain the Washington Wizards have been holding out for two first-round picks for Kuzma, though team sources indicate that is somewhat overblown,” Robbins wrote. “The truth is probably somewhere in the middle. The Sacramento Kings have coveted Kuzma for some time.”
Kuzma, who is currently 28 years old, is having an impressive season, averaging 21.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 0.4 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game.
He’s shooting at an efficient rate, with a field goal percentage of 45.6%, a three-point shooting percentage of 32.9%, and a free-throw percentage of 79.5%. His current salary stands at $25.6 million.
Last summer, the Wizards, who currently have a record of 9-37, signed Kuzma to a substantial four-year, $90 million contract. Given the structure of his contract, there doesn’t appear to be an immediate need for the Wizards to part ways with the versatile swingman.
Notably, NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN has reported that the Wizards are not inclined to trade Kuzma.
“Washington has been very reticent with Kyle Kuzma. People are calling them. Teams tell me they call them and they’re not getting counters from Washington. If you want to register an offer for Kuzma, fine, you can do it. But they’re not at the point now where it seems like they’re really active in maybe seriously trying to move him.”
Throughout his career, Kuzma has maintained solid averages of 17.0 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game, previously playing for the Los Angeles Lakers before joining the Wizards. He was a key contributor to the Lakers’ 2020 NBA Championship victory over the Miami Heat in six games within the Walt Disney World bubble.
In addition to the Kings, the Dallas Mavericks have also expressed their interest in potentially acquiring Kyle Kuzma via trade.
