The Los Angeles Rams waived safety Tanner Ingle on Tuesday, clearing a spot on the 53-man roster after the 26-year-old defensive back spent the first three weeks of the season exclusively on special teams.
The team announced the move with a brief roster update: “LA Rams Roster Moves: • Waived, No Recall S Tanner Ingle.”
Ingle played in all three of the Rams’ games this season. Every snap he took in 2026 came on special teams units. He also appeared in three regular season games for Los Angeles last year, finishing with two tackles and no starts.
The Rams signed Ingle from the practice squad to the active roster on Sept. 18, shortly after placing outside linebacker Myles Garrett on injured reserve.
Ingle first joined the organization as an undrafted free agent out of North Carolina State after the 2023 NFL draft. He has spent most of his professional career bouncing between the Rams’ practice squad and short stints on the 53-man roster, a pattern that repeated each of the last four training camps.
At NC State, Ingle played five seasons and recorded 310 tackles, 23 tackles for loss, three interceptions and 13 pass breakups across 56 games. He earned first-team All-ACC honors in 2021 after posting 82 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, one interception and four pass deflections.
The following year he added 83 tackles, eight tackles for loss and two interceptions and was named second-team All-ACC.
Ingle is listed at 5-foot-8 and 186 pounds. He grew up in Orlando, Florida, and starred at Dr. Phillips High School before heading to Raleigh.
The Rams are 1-2 after a 30-26 loss at Denver on Sunday night. They sit third in the NFC West.
Los Angeles has dealt with several defensive injuries already, including Garrett’s knee issue and a hamstring problem for safety Kamren Kinchens. The team also recently signed safety Maximus Pulley off the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad.
Ingle’s waiver comes as the Rams prepare to visit the Eagles on Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field.
A “waived, no recall” designation means the Rams cannot immediately pull the move back if another club claims him. Ingle remains eligible to re-sign with Los Angeles if he clears waivers and the club wants him back on the practice squad, a path he has taken several times before.
The Rams rank first in the NFL in total yards per game this season at 417.7 while allowing 272.7 yards per game, third-fewest in the league. Special teams contributions have been Ingle’s primary value during his time in Los Angeles. He has yet to record a defensive statistic in 2026.
The roster move leaves the Rams with flexibility heading into a Week 4 road game against a 2-1 Eagles team.
Ingle’s college production and special teams work kept him in the organization longer than many undrafted players last. Whether another team claims him this week will determine the next chapter of his NFL career.
