The Las Vegas Raiders continue to tinker with their offensive line after an offseason of additions that still left several spots unsettled.
On Thursday, they claimed offensive guard Bryce Cabeldue off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks, a move reported by NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo that adds another body to a unit that remains one of the team’s clearest question marks.
Cabeldue arrived in the league last year as a sixth-round pick and appeared in eight games as a rookie. He was part of Seattle’s Super Bowl run and even played in the Seahawks’ season-opening loss to the New England Patriots before the club decided to move on.
The timing of the release opened the door for Las Vegas, which has a built-in connection: Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak coached Cabeldue in Seattle last season. That familiarity should help the young lineman pick up the offense quickly and compete for snaps sooner than a typical midseason waiver claim.
The Raiders already have two relatively secure pieces up front. Left tackle Kolton Miller remains the anchor on the edge, and newly signed center Tyler Linderbaum is expected to stabilize the middle after receiving a landmark contract this offseason.
The Athletic’s Sam Warren recently ranked Linderbaum as the third-best player on the entire roster, citing the cohesion and run-blocking punch he brought to the line. That kind of praise underscores how much the organization is counting on him.
The guard spots, however, are far less settled. Spencer Buford is listed as the starter at left guard but has never been a consistent every-down player.
At right guard, Jackson Powers-Johnson currently holds the job. A former second-round pick, he has shown flashes of the violent, high-effort style the coaches want, yet injuries and mental errors have kept him from locking the position down.
The Raiders have been open that the job remains a competition with 2025 third-round pick Caleb Rogers. If Powers-Johnson struggles early, Rogers could take the starting role and never give it back.
Cabeldue’s arrival does not immediately change that pecking order, but it adds a player who already knows Kubiak’s scheme and has Super Bowl experience.
For a group still searching for reliability at both guard spots, that combination of familiarity and recent high-level football is worth a roster spot. Whether he becomes more than depth will depend on how quickly he adapts and how the current starters perform in the coming weeks.
The Raiders clearly believe there is still work to be done on the interior, and this waiver claim is another attempt to find the right mix before the season gets away from them.
