Price Tag For Chicago White Sox’s Garrett Crochet Going Up

There has not been much to get excited about when it comes to the Chicago White Sox during the 2024 season. They are on pace to break the record for losses in a season, but there has been one bright spot; starting pitcher Garrett Crochet.

For the first time in his professional career, Garrett Crochet has been unleashed as a starting pitcher. The results have been magnificent to this point, as he has been magnificent for the cellar-dwelling Chicago White Sox.

On Thursday against the Seattle Mariners, he fired off another stellar performance. He didn’t factor into the decision, but pitched 7.0 innings, allowing only two hits and two walks for one earned run with 13 strikeouts.

The strikeouts are a new career high for Garrett Crochet, who has reached double-digits five times this season. All but one of his pitches against the Mariners were a fastball or cutter, resulting in an impressive feat.

According to OptaSTATS, Garett Crochet had an average MPH of 95.6 on Thursday night for all his pitches. That is the highest average velocity by any left-handed MLB pitcher in the last 20 years with a minimum of 50 pitches thrown.

If the asking price the Chicago White Sox set on Garrett Crochet wasn’t high enough already, it is only going up after the start against Seattle. Only 24 years old, he looks to have a bright future as a starter in this league.

It can certainly be argued that the White Sox would be better off holding onto him as a centerpiece to build around. But, he would undoubtedly be the best starting pitcher available on the market.

That could set up a bidding war, which would result in a very strong package being sent back to the Chicago White in exchange for him. Given the current state of the franchise, that is something that could appeal to ownership and the front office.

On the season, Garrett Crochet has made 15 starts. He has a record of 6-5 with a 3.16 ERA and 0.90 WHIP. His 116 strikeouts are tied with Tyler Glasnow of the Los Angeles Dodgers for the most in baseball this season.
