Pittsburgh Steelers Linked to Risky Weapon to Fill Massive Hole

The Pittsburgh Steelers suddenly have a pretty big hole in their backfield after losing Najee Harris to free agency, and while Harris wasn’t exactly a stalwart for the Steelers, he was at least a consistent bell cow.

Now, Pittsburgh has Jaylen Warren and not a whole lot else at the running back position, so it will certainly need to find an answer at some point this offseason.

The Steelers may very well be waiting for the NFL Draft, which contains a very deep halfback class, but Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton actually feels they may be a fit for an intriguing free agent: J.K. Dobbins.

Moton listed Dobbins as one of the 10 best remaining players on the open market and named Pittsburgh as one of the top three fits for for his services.

The 26-year-old spent the 2024 campaign with the Los Angeles Chargers, rushing for 905 yards and nine touchdowns while averaging 4.6 yards per carry.

Dobbins is a good player when healthy, but that’s just the thing: he has had tremendous difficulty staying on the field since entering the league with the Baltimore Ravens in 2020.

The Ohio State product has never played a full season, and between 2021 and 2023, he played in a grand total of nine games. Even this past year, Dobbins missed four contests due to a knee injury.

If the Steelers can land Dobbins on a one-year deal, he may be worth the risk. But can Pittsburgh really trust him to avoid injury over the course of a full 17-game campaign?

The Steelers can always sign Dobbins and hedge their bets by also drafting a running back, or they can stay away from him entirely.
