The Philadelphia Flyers announced a pair of roster moves Sunday ahead of their home game against the Carolina Hurricanes, placing winger Travis Konecny on injured reserve with a lower-body injury and recalling defenseman Oliver Bonk from the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

Konecny’s placement is retroactive to October 8, the date of the Flyers’ loss to the Ottawa Senators in which he played. He had been listed as day-to-day late last week.

The designation means he will miss the next two games and become eligible to return in time for Thursday’s contest against the Detroit Red Wings.

Through five games this season, the 29-year-old is the only Flyer with three points, all assists. He recorded 27 goals and 68 points in 77 games last season after totaling 76 points the year before.

Bonk’s recall fills the roster spot opened by Konecny and addresses depth on the blue line.

Defenseman Cameron York is day-to-day with an upper-body injury, while Rasmus Ristolainen is already on injured reserve.

Bonk, a first-round pick in 2023, scored a goal and an assist in his NHL debut in the regular-season finale last spring against Montreal. He appeared in one playoff game without a point.

In 46 AHL games during his first professional season, he managed 19 points and a minus-14 rating. He has two assists in two games with the Phantoms this year.

The moves come as the Flyers try to generate more offense after a slow start. They have averaged just 1.17 goals per game through six contests, the lowest mark in the NHL.

With Konecny unavailable, the team has elevated Trevor Zegras to a top-line wing role and added Noah Cates to the power-play unit.

A call-up will not fully replace Konecny’s production, but Bonk gives the coaching staff another option as Philadelphia looks to reverse its early-season struggles.

The Flyers host the Hurricanes, the defending Stanley Cup champions, on Sunday night.

Their next two games are against the Seattle Kraken and the Red Wings, a stretch that may offer a slightly lighter schedule while Konecny recovers.

The organization will monitor the winger’s status closely in the coming days as it continues to manage a list of injuries that already includes longer-term absences elsewhere on the roster.
