The Philadelphia Eagles released linebacker Chance Campbell from the practice squad on Tuesday, ending a second stint in Philadelphia that never quite produced a lasting roster spot, via the NFL transaction wire.
Campbell was released with an injury settlement.
The Eagles also released linebacker Anfernee Orji from the practice squad and placed running back Tank Bigsby on injured reserve. Philadelphia has not disclosed the nature or severity of Campbell’s injury.
The move closes a short, active stretch for the 26-year-old. On Oct. 1, the Eagles placed Campbell on the practice-squad injured list and signed Orji, a former Vanderbilt standout who entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the New Orleans Saints in 2023.
Days earlier, Campbell had been elevated for the team’s Week 3 loss to the Chicago Bears. He played 11 snaps on special teams and recorded one tackle before returning to the developmental roster.
That appearance was the clearest on-field return of a player the coaching staff had publicly backed in camp.
Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio told reporters in August not to sleep on Campbell, calling him a good football player whose earlier injuries had set him back. Fangio said Campbell had shown he belonged since the Eagles first picked him up.
Campbell’s path to Philadelphia was uneven.
A native of Ellicott City, Maryland, he began at Maryland, transferred to Ole Miss, and led the Rebels with 109 tackles in 2021 while adding 12.5 tackles for loss and three fumble recoveries. The Tennessee Titans selected him in the sixth round of the 2022 draft, 219th overall.
A knee injury wiped out his rookie year. He appeared in four games in 2023 and recorded three tackles before a torn ACL cost him the entire 2024 season.
The Eagles signed him on Aug. 20, 2025, waived him at final cuts, and brought him back to the practice squad the next day.
He spent that season on the developmental roster, then signed a reserve/future contract in January. The same pattern repeated in 2026: released at the Aug. 30 roster deadline, re-signed to the practice squad on Aug. 31.
An injury settlement typically pays a player for a set number of weeks and bars him from re-signing with that club until the settlement expires.
Campbell is now a free agent. At 6-foot-2 and 232 pounds, he remains the kind of special-teams linebacker teams often circle back to once healthy, but his latest chapter with the Eagles is over.
