Paul Finebaum, the longtime SEC Network host and radio personality, recently weighed in on the question. During SEC media days, he named Ohio State, Oregon and Notre Dame among the teams he liked.
On his own show, Finebaum went further. He said he is leaning toward a Big Ten champion once again.
“I don’t think it’s really in dispute,” Finebaum said. “I haven’t made a final decision yet. Not that anybody’s really waiting for that. I’m leaning toward picking a Big Ten team to win it again.”
Ohio State returns one of the deepest and most talented rosters in the country. Quarterback Julian Sayin leads the offense. Running back Bo Jackson provides a strong ground presence. Wide receiver Jeremiah Smith stands out as one of the most dynamic players in the sport.
The Buckeyes’ combination of experience and skill has many observers viewing them as the team to beat. Their path through the Big Ten will not be easy, yet the talent level gives them a clear edge in many matchups.
Oregon also enters with high expectations. The Ducks bring back quarterback Dante Moore. Receivers Dakorien Moore and Evan Stewart offer big-play ability. Running back Jordon Davison anchors the ground game.
The defensive side returns substantial production as well. Oregon is chasing the program’s first national championship and looks built to make a serious run.
Finebaum’s comments add another layer of attention to the conference’s contenders. While he has not locked in a final pick, his preference for a Big Ten winner aligns with both recent history and current projections.
The league’s recent success has set a high bar. Three different teams have raised the trophy in three seasons. That variety shows the depth within the conference.
Other programs will try to break through. Texas and Notre Dame rank among the leading outsiders according to the power index. Still, the numbers favor the Big Ten’s top squads.
