The New England Patriots waived safety Elliott Davison from the active roster on Monday, ending a short but eventful stint in Foxborough for the undrafted defensive back, the team announced.

Davison, 24, had been elevated to the 53-man roster from the practice squad on October 19 after the team placed wide receiver Romeo Doubs on injured reserve.

That promotion came after he had already seen limited regular-season action as a standard elevation, including a Week 5 appearance against the Las Vegas Raiders in which he logged 10 snaps on defense and 19 on special teams while recording two tackles and a pass deflection.

Overall, his NFL contributions remained modest in a secondary that has rotated through several options this season.

Limited snap counts kept him from accumulating substantial production beyond a handful of tackles and one pass breakup across his appearances.

His path with the Patriots was anything but linear. The 6-foot, roughly 190-to-200-pound safety first joined New England’s practice squad on September 3 after being released by the New Orleans Saints following training camp.

He was cut from the practice squad on September 14, only to be re-signed the following day.

Those early fluctuations gave way to a couple of game-day elevations before the mid-October promotion to the active roster.

Prior to landing in Foxborough, Davison had spent his entire 2025 rookie season on the Saints’ practice squad after signing as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Texas at San Antonio.

He returned to Saints camp in 2026 under a futures contract but was waived on August 30.

At UTSA, the Tyler, Texas, native started all 13 games as a senior in 2024, finishing with 58 tackles, four pass breakups, and a fumble recovery after transferring from Incarnate Word, where he had shown ball skills with multiple interceptions.

His athletic testing and college production earned him an NFL opportunity, yet regular-season snaps proved scarce until the brief windows with the Patriots.

With the waiver, Davison becomes a free agent eligible to be claimed or signed elsewhere, closing a chapter that saw him bounce between practice-squad depth and a temporary roster spot while the Patriots managed injuries and special-teams needs.

For a second-year player still seeking a sustained role, the release returns him to the open market after several months of roster churn in New England.
