Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day has solidified his status as a top-tier leader in college football through consistent success at Ohio State.

Although the Buckeyes suffered a narrow defeat to Indiana in the Big Ten championship game and later fell to Miami in the Cotton Bowl quarterfinal, Day’s program is still fresh off a national title triumph from the previous year, with the Indiana loss marking the team’s initial setback in over a year.

Such accomplishments suggest the coach merits some understanding from observers. His strong track record in Columbus has even sparked discussions about potential opportunities in the professional ranks, including suggestions from Sean Deveney of Heavy that Day could attract interest from the Cleveland Browns.

Deveney described Day as an “unlikely” match for the Browns but argued the team ought to at least reach out to the 46-year-old mentor.

“The local guy and 2024 champ is worth a phone call,” Deveney wrote.

However, any outreach from Cleveland seems unlikely to sway Day from his current position.

The Browns have long struggled with instability and currently field one of the league’s weaker lineups, compounded by finishing the season with too many victories to secure a top quarterback prospect in the draft.

After finishing his seventh complete campaign at Ohio State with an impressive 82-12 overall mark, Day holds the best winning percentage among all active college head coaches.

He has led the Buckeyes to multiple national championship appearances and assembled one of the most talented groups in recent history during the prior season, culminating in that program’s latest crown.

Departing a renowned college role for the challenges in Cleveland would appear illogical at this stage.

Day recently earned greater support from the Ohio State faithful following the title run and a decisive victory over Michigan to close out the regular season.

Looking ahead, the Buckeyes are poised to compete for another championship in the coming year, bolstered by quarterback Julian Sayin gaining valuable experience and standout receiver Jeremiah Smith set to return.

Additionally, a highly regarded recruiting group is incoming, highlighted by elite wideout prospect Chris Henry Jr., who could emerge as a key complement to Smith.

Day has ample incentives to stay committed to Ohio State moving forward, particularly if the primary NFL interest comes from a franchise like the Browns.
