As the New York Yankees prepare for the trade deadline, what are their needs currently?
It has been an amazing couple of months of baseball for the New York Yankees. With the Yankees in first place in the AL East, they have their eyes set on playing for the World Series once again.
As expected with a great record, the Yankees don’t have a ton of holes on the team. One of the most impressive things so far for the New York Yankees is that they have been able to do this without the reigning Cy Young award winner from last season, Gerrit Cole.
With Cole looking good in rehab and getting closer to returning, that will only make the Yankees better. Recently, ESPN spoke about what the needs are for the Yankees heading into the trade deadline. Here’s what they had to say.
A team can never have enough relievers, but this Yankees squad has been so successful that the primary objective between now and the deadline is simply to remain as healthy as possible. Because let’s face it, none of this matters in New York unless the Yankees are the last team standing when November arrives.
The article from ESPN is pretty spot on. As we have seen in the playoffs, you can never have enough relief pitching as arms in the bullpen can be worn down toward the end of the season and into the playoffs.
However, the most important thing for the New York Yankees is to stay healthy. As we saw last season when Aaron Judge went down with an injury, the Yankees were a completely different team.
If the Yankees can get healthy and stay healthy in the stretch run and maybe add an arm for the bullpen, they will continue to be a title contender. Don’t expect anything major from the New York Yankees come the deadline, barring a major injury.
