Yankees Connected to Huge All-Star Trade With Dodgers

Would the New York Yankees seriously consider swinging a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that beat them in the World Series last season?

Given all of the injuries that the Yankees have incurred heading into the 2025 MLB regular season, anything is possible, and Zach Pressnell of Newsweek feels that New York may want to consider pursuing a trade for Dodgers pitcher Tony Gonsolin.

“But it wouldn’t be crazy to think the Dodgers could explore the idea of trading Gonsolin when he returns from injury. And the Yankees would be the perfect landing spot,” Pressnell wrote. “New York would need to part ways with quality prospects in order to land the righty, but it’s the kind of deal that could work out for both teams. If New York ships a package centered around Everson Pereira to the Dodgers in exchange for Gonsolin, both teams would get better.”

As Pressnell noted, Gonsolin himself is recovering from a injury, but it was a back injury he suffered from lifting weights. So, it isn’t arm-related.

Meanwhile, the Yankees will be without Gerrit Cole for the entire year, and Luis Gil will be sidelined for several months. Plus, Clarke Schmidt is now dealing with shoulder soreness.

The Dodgers’ starting rotation is loaded with depth, which could make Gonsolin expendable. That’s especially after the 30-year-old pitched to the tune of a 4.98 ERA last season. However, Gonsolin is just two years removed from going 16-1 with a 2.14 ERA en route to an All-Star appearance, so perhaps New York could revitalize him.

At this point, the Yankees are desperate, as their pitching staff is a complete mess once you get past Max Fried and Carlos Rodon. The problem is that Los Angeles knows that, so it may try to rake the Yanks over the coals when it comes to a potential asking price for Gonsolin.
