The New York Rangers have made a corresponding set of roster moves centered on their fourth line, recalling veteran center Justin Dowling from the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack while reassigning rookie Cole Beaudoin.

The transaction, announced by the club, returns a familiar organizational face to the NHL roster and sends one of the team’s more promising young forwards back to the minor leagues for continued development.

Beaudoin, 20, concludes a brief first stint in the NHL with a single point across four games. He was summoned last week to replace injured center Joe Veleno and initially received a reasonable opportunity.

In his first three appearances, against the Islanders, Capitals, and Canucks, he posted a 50 percent success rate in the faceoff circle, recorded three blocked shots, and delivered six hits while averaging more than ten minutes of ice time.

Those numbers suggested he could handle a bottom-six role, yet the usage did not hold.

Against the Lightning, his ice time dropped to just over three and a half minutes, signaling that the Rangers preferred not to keep him in a limited role.

As a player acquired from the Utah Mammoth in the offseason and viewed as one of the organization’s better forward prospects, Beaudoin stands to benefit from the reassignment.

In three early games with Hartford, he has already produced a goal and five points. Top-line minutes at the AHL level should allow him to continue building on that pace rather than sitting on the fringe of an NHL roster.

Dowling, by contrast, arrives with a longer track record. The 36-year-old has appeared in 154 NHL games, collecting nine goals and 26 points while averaging roughly the same ice time Beaudoin received in his fuller outings.

He is in his second season within the Rangers organization after posting nine goals and 29 points in 46 games for Hartford a year ago.

That combination of experience and recent production makes him a more straightforward fit for the club’s bottom six while Veleno remains unavailable.

The swap underscores a common NHL calculation: short-term roster stability versus long-term prospect development.

With Dowling providing a reliable presence on the fourth line, the Rangers can manage the immediate need created by injury without further limiting Beaudoin’s playing time.

For Beaudoin, the return to Hartford offers a clearer path to regular shifts and continued point production.

How long the arrangement lasts will depend on both Veleno’s recovery timeline and whether Dowling can maintain the steady, low-event play the Rangers appear to want from that line.
