Recently Bleacher Report listed big-name players who could be traded before the deadline. For the New York Mets, Pete Alonso made the list.

It has been an awful start to the 2024 season for the New York Mets. After deciding to be sellers last season, the Mets look like they are in rebuild mode as the 2024 season moves along and that means expect them to be sellers once again.

With some big names on the roster, Bleacher Report recently named Pete Alonso as a player who the New York Mets could move before the deadline. Here’s what they had to say.

Pete Alonso is headed for free agency and it will be the next exciting baseball thing he does if he isn’t traded. The Mets are far out of the playoff picture.

Alonso should not be playing for the Mets after the July 30 deadline. His .231/.305/.453 slash line is nothing to write home about. But his power and bat speed remain special.

The situation surrounding Alonso and his contract has been very interesting in New York. Despite being one of the best power hitters in baseball in the last five years, Alonso and the Mets coming together on a new contract has been rather silent.

While Alonso has been excellent so far in his career with the Mets, he has struggled a bit this season, as perhaps the contract situation has been affecting his focus on the field.

If the Mets are truly not interested in bringing Alonso back, then he should have been traded in the offseason and certainly should be traded before the deadline. With a player the caliber of Pete Alonso, the Mets would be able to continue to help restock their farm system, which has been starved for talent.

Since we know the New York Mets are likely not a playoff contender this season, they need to decide on whether or not they want to commit to Alonso long-term. If that answer is no, then he must be traded.
