New York Jets Reveal Major Injury News On Two Key Defenders

The New York Jets’ defense suffered a massive blow this past weekend, as edge rusher Jermaine Johnson tore his Achilles in the team’s win over the Tennessee Titans.

However, that wasn’t all.

Linebacker C.J. Mosley exited the game with a toe injury, and cornerback D.J. Reed did not play due to a knee issue. Then there is fellow cornerback Michael Carter II, who is nursing an ankle injury.

The good news is that Reed and Carter look like they are a full go for Thursday night’s matchup against the New England Patriots.

The Jets listed both Reed and Carter as full participants in practice on Tuesday, indicating that they will both be available for New York’s Week 3 AFC East clash (h/t Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk).

This is certainly significant news for Gang Green, as both Reed and Carter are integral pieces in a Jets secondary that is one of the best in football.

New York allowed just 170 passing yards in its 24-17 victory over the Titans and picked off Tennessee quarterback Will Levis once.

Reed may actually be one of the most underrated defenders in all of football and is coming off of a terrific 2023 campaign in which he played 15 games and registered 76 tackles, an interception, a forced fumble and nine passes defended.

The 27-year-old joined the Jets in 2022 after splitting the first four years of his NFL career between the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks.

Reed was primarily a reserve over the first couple of years of his professional tenure before establishing himself as as full-time starter with the Seahawks in 2021, when he posted 78 tackles, a couple of picks, a fumble recovery and 10 passes defended.

The New York Jets are 1-1 heading into their matchup against the Patriots.
